After presenting its new generation of PLUG-IN HYBRID vehicles as part of its electrification strategy at the Paris Motor Show, PEUGEOT announces the development of a new range of electrified sports vehicles from 2020. PEUGEOT will concentrate its resources on developing these new vehicles and has therefore decided to withdraw from the WRX championship at the end of the 2018 season, whose evolution towards electrification is uncertain.
With its 208-year history, PEUGEOT is therefore approaching the energy transition with serenity. The new PEUGEOT 3008 HYBRID4 and new 508 sedan and SW HYBRID presented at the Paris Motor Show embody PEUGEOT's transformation and deep acceleration towards electrification of all its new models from 2019.
Faithful to its DNA, PEUGEOT continues its offensive and chooses to offer its customers a range of high-performance, low-emission electrified sports vehicles from 2020.
These electrified sports versions will be developed in collaboration with PEUGEOT Sport teams and will contribute to the challenge of reducing CO2 emissions, in accordance with the instructions of the European institutions addressed to the automotive industry.
The PEUGEOT brand has decided to focus on the development of these new vehicles, in a context where the uncertainty surrounding the evolution of the WRX thermal championship towards an electric mode by 2021 is a reality. As a result, this competition is disconnected from the PEUGEOT brand's electrification schedule, which is being carried out in accordance with the plan established with an initial offer as early as 2020.
"Driving pleasure is at the heart of the brand's history. Electrification is a new opportunity to offer new high-performance versions to our customers looking for low-emission sports sensations. Driving sensations will be amplified by the performance provided by electrification. New territories to be explored, new challenges to be met, the adventure of the PEUGEOT brand continues for an exciting future. Boredom will never be part of our DNA. #UNBORING THE FUTURE.»
